Most people say chicken eggs are chicken eggs no matter where they come from. I would disagree, since I have been raising my own backyard chickens I have realized the true difference in store bought vs. farm fresh eggs. Not only is the taste and the color of the yolk different, but farm fresh eggs are far more nutritious than store bought eggs.
Farm Fresh Eggs have:
• 1/3 less cholesterol • 1/4 less saturated fat • 2/3 more vitamin A• 2 times more omega- 3 fatty acids• 3 times more vitamin E• 7 times more beta carotene
Though many people believe that only brown eggs are farm fresh, backyard hens can also lay white eggs. There are many different breeds of chickens some of which lay white eggs, some lay brown and some lay green and blue eggs!
The shell color does not change what is inside of the egg. Just because you see brown eggs in the stores doesn’t mean they are any healthier than the white store bought eggs. The factory hens that lay brown eggs are fed the same thing as factory hens that lay white eggs.
The best thing about farm fresh eggs is the fact that you know the hens are treated humanely and are not stuck in a tiny cage with no room to turn around in, as the factory farm hens are.
Farm fresh eggs are the way to go, whether you get them here at Greenwood Farms or raise your own hens for fresh eggs you will be making a much healthier choice!
